MISSION AND HISTORY

Mission: To grow fresh, nutrient-dense food in a way that involves the local community and contributes healthy food sources to the most disadvantaged around us.

In Tennessee, 967,430 people struggle with hunger, and 295,570 of them are children. That’s 1 in 7 who struggle with hunger, and 1 in 5 are children. People who are hungry are not necessarily living on the streets. They may be in your child's classroom, in your neighborhood or just down the street. In addition, many of these people live in food deserts, which are areas more than 10 miles from the nearest grocery store. Often, there are limited resources to get food, and the only option is fast food or convenience markets. While processed food may help with hunger pangs, it provides little to no nutrition.

What began in 2008 as a dream to buy land, grow food and give it away, has recently developed into a new way to serve and impact more individuals in the community. God has blessed our mission to be a healthy food source to those in need so much, By Faith Farm had to create a nonprofit to continue meeting the need in the community on a larger scale.

Welcome to Fed By Faith, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit located on By Faith Farm!

Fed By Faith nonprofit continues the mission to grow fresh, nutrient-dense food in a way that involves the local community and contributes healthy food sources to the most disadvantaged around us. We believe this is the best food available to provide well-rounded nutrition to those in need. We have found the most efficient way to distribute fresh produce is through our local hunger relief agencies such as Second Harvest, which picks up the food at our farm.

We are extremely grateful to all who have partnered with us in this mission. As a volunteer-led organization, we have relied on community support from our first day. It is thanks to donors, volunteers and supporters such as you that Fed By Faith is able to make an even greater impact on those underserved in our community. THANK YOU!

GROWING PRACTICES

In 2020, due to her dedicated conservation efforts over the previous 10 years, Lori Birckhead was awarded the well-deserved accolade of Conservation Farmer of the Year by The Davidson County Soil Conservation District. “We knew when we originally bought the farm it didn’t really feel like it was our land. It was just entrusted to us for a time, and we had a responsibility to not just protect it, but to leave it even better for future generations."

At Fed By Faith, we want to be good stewards of our environment and community. Natural growing methods heal the soil and produce healing food for the network of lives we affect.

We pride ourselves on growing not just good tasting food, but also conscientiously grown, nutrient-dense food.
